ONLINE CATALOGUE
The collection of the Jewish National and University Library comprises some 5 million volumes. It includes books, manuscripts,
newspapers, maps, music , audio-visual and electronic material, all in a wide variety of languages and scripts.
The Main Catalogue of the JNUL provides the tools to access this rich resource efficiently, whether you are
looking for a specific item or topic, or whether you want to “browse” the collection virtually.
It integrates in a single listing the majority of resources held by the Library, both in the stacks and in the various departments.
It is also possible to limit your search to a particular sub-collection.
Interfaces are in English and Hebrew. Material in Hebrew, Arabic, Cyrillic and Roman characters can be searched from either interface.
To facilitate your search, a variety of access points, such as keywords, author, title and
subjects according to the Dewey classification system may be used.
There are many choices for advanced combinations of search terms, and results can be emailed to your address.
What is not included in the catalogue?
Many publications in languages other than Hebrew from before 1984.
These must be searched on site in the Card Catalogue. The
Reference Service can provide this service
for readers unable to come to the Library themselves.
Archives. A large number of important personal archives are part of the Library’s collection. A list of these is accessible at the Library’s internet site.
In general, individual articles are not included. Indexes, such as the Index to Articles in Jewish Studies (RAMBI) can be consulted online
via the Library’s internet site.
The Basic Search screen provides simple instructions for use of the Catalogue. The Library’s Reference staff will be pleased to give further assistance.
The retrospective conversion of the card catalogue was made possible by a generous donation from the Henry Leir Foundation.
