Hebrew Manuscripts in the Vatican Library

A Catalogue of all the Hebrew manuscripts kept at the Vatican Library was prepared by the staff of the Institute of Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscripts and other scholars and published by the Biblioteca apostolica Vaticana.
The catalogue includes 801 mostly medieval codices of one of the most important collection of Hebrew manuscripts.

It contains detailed descriptions and updated identifications of thousands of texts and analysis of the production of each of the manuscripts, separation of its different layers and scribes who shared the copying of many of them, selected material data, identification of script types and the production area of each layer, estimated dating based on codicological and palaeographical criteria.

The catalogue also includes the history of each manuscript and records added over time.

The printed catalogue, the outcome of a successful long cooperation between the Jewish National and University Library (now the National Library of Israel) and the Vatican Library, is accessible now on-line at the website of the National Library of Israel.
